Antognolla Golf Crowned Italy’s Best Golf Course
UMBRIA, ITALY – Antognolla Golf, a spectacular Robert Trent Jones Jr. championship course, has once again claimed the title of Italy’s Best Golf Course at the 2024 World Golf Awards in Madeira, Portugal.
This is the third time Antognolla Golf has been crowned Italy’s Best Golf Course at the World Golf Awards, following wins in 2020 and 2022. Voted on by travel professionals, media, and consumers worldwide, this award reflects Antognolla’s commitment to excellence and the unmatched experience it offers its members and guests.
Accepting the award on behalf of the owners and team, the Director of Golf at Antognolla, César Burguière, said: “Being named the Best Golf Course in Italy for the third time is an incredible honour and a true reflection of the dedication and hard work of our exceptional team. This achievement showcases the meticulous preparation and attention to detail that happens behind the scenes at Antognolla.

Antognolla Golf is committed to preserving both the beauty of the sport and environmental sustainability. In recent years, major investments have been made to upgrade the bunkers as well as the irrigation and drainage systems to make the course more sustainable and playable year-round. In 2021, the course received GEO certification in recognition of its commitment to sustainable practices.
To irrigate the course, Antognolla Golf relies on artificial lakes that are replenished by rainfall, thus conserving water resources without impacting local farmers. Antognolla operates a weather station that monitors climate conditions in real time, and the team uses this data and the computerised irrigation system to optimise water usage. In addition, the resort has invested in upgrades to completely seal the main lake to prevent leakages of any kind. Moreover, the system’s pumping station uses energy-saving pumps.
These initiatives allow Antognolla to use an average of 25% less water compared with traditional irrigation methods. Over the past three years, Antognolla has also reduced its reliance on chemical fertilisers, with organic fertilisers now accounting for 80% of the fertilisers used, and mineral fertilisers making up the remaining 20%.
In April 2024, the Ryder Cup legend Costantino Rocca officially joined Antognolla Resort and Residences as an ambassador, and he will play a big part in the club’s continued ascent towards becoming one of the premier courses in mainland Europe.
On the agenda for Antognolla Golf is the construction of a new golf clubhouse, a reception area for golfers that is scheduled to open within the next two years and that will be built entirely with local materials, as well as the Golf Social Green, a new 3,000-square-metre training area that will offer new spaces for golfers and provide a setting for entertainment events.
Antognolla is set to become an even more prominent global golf destination with the construction of the Six Senses Antognolla Resort and Residences, which, on completion, will feature a renovated 12th-century castle, residences, hotel suites, and a 3,000-square-metre wellness centre.
